Description

The original and worldwide best selling waterless compost toilet!

  • Family-size, classically-styled waterless compost toilet, perfect for homes, gardens, offices, cabins, huts , glamping and remote off-grid applications without sewer connections.
  • Urine-separating bowl design keeps liquids and solids separate for ease of use and maintenance.
  • Automatic concealing screen covers the solids container and shields the user from seeing the contents. The concealing screen opens automatically as the user sits down, and closes as they stand up.
  • Highly efficient ventilation fan consumes just 2 watts and removes all odours for a pleasant user experience.
  • Powered by either 12v DC (for off-grid) or 230V AC mains electricity with the included adaptor.
  • Works all year round and in all climates.
  • Automatically rotating solids container has a capacity of around 60 ‘solids’ uses.

The 2022 Separett Villa is the replacement name for the Villa 9000 and Villa 9010 (see our blog post) which have been combined into one single product.

The Separett Villa waterless, urine-diverting toilet has a small but powerful (upgraded in 2020) ventilation fan that runs from either a 12-volts DC power source or 230V AC mains using the supplied mains adaptor. The fan only consumes around 2 watts at 12v and runs continuously and quietly to provide simple, 100% odour-free operation with no need for sawdust or wood shaving.

It’s the perfect choice for places where there is limited or no mains water and no mains drainage or sewerage, such as remote or off-grid houses, cabins, caravans, shepherd’s huts, garden rooms, garden offices, glamping sites etc, as the toilet looks very ‘normal’ and is equally at home in a domestic or rustic setting.

The toilet’s design, pioneered over 20 years ago by Separett, separates ‘solids’ from ‘liquids’ using a urine-diverting toilet bowl, and the fan/ventilation system draws foul air from the toilet to eliminate odours efficiently and completely. When the user sits down, a special concealing screen automatically opens, revealing the solids container which is normally hidden from view.

Urine is captured in the front part of the urine-diverting bowl and it then flows, with gravity, out of the rear of the toilet and into either a small external soak-way pit or a container for subsequent emptying (container not supplied).

The solids container should only need emptying every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on usage (3-4 weeks is typical for two people using this toilet full time). In most cases, a biodegradable bag lines the solids container, keeping it clean and making the process of emptying/changing very hygienic – the whole emptying procedure takes a matter of a few minutes. In a glamping/camping location, the solids container can be emptied/refreshed on cleaning/changeover day so incoming guests are presented with an empty toilet.

Unlike many other compost toilets, the Villa does not need any sawdust or cover material, making it extremely easy to use and maximising the capacity of the solids container.

The toilet itself is made from a type of high gloss plastic, called polypropylene, similar to shower trays and baths. This material is highly durable, fully recyclable, impact-proof and easy to clean using non-abrasive cleaners, maximising hygiene.

For those with small children, or those likely to have small children use it, there is an optional child seat that is easy to attach and reattach as needed and ensures kids can use the Villa in the correct way.

Classic design, proven performance and a great guarantee

Everything about the Separett Villa has been specially designed and manufactured, with an emphasis on style, odour-free use, and ease of waste handling, with no space wasted with ill-fitting ‘off the shelf’ containers.

The Villa has been in continuous production, largely unaltered, for well over 20 years and has an enviable track record for reliability and performing year-round in all climates.

The Villa comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee (for domestic installations) and legendary after-sales support from WooWoo!

Separett Villa installation requirements

  • Electrical: The Separett Villa will require either a 12-volt DC supply (such as a leisure battery and solar system) or an adjacent 230v AC mains socket in order to operate the fan. The fan runs continuously to provide 100% odour-free operation.

  • Ventilation: The fan pulls air through the toilet and out through a 75mm vent pipe at the top of the toilet. From here it can either be turned through 90 degrees and go directly outside through the wall (recommended), or straight up and through the roof/ceiling. The outside part of the duct is finished with an insect screen and a cap (included with the installation kit). For ventilation options, see this page.

  • Liquid Outlet: The 32mm urine outlet is on the rear of the unit and can be led to a domestic greywater drain, a soak-away or a holding tank. Please ensure you comply with any local regulations regarding the disposal etc of urine.

Installation is straightforward (see video below) and can be undertaken by any person competent in DIY. If the installation is being made through a wooden structure, then it will usually take 1-2 hours (plus any soakaway installation time). Installing the vent pipe through brickwork or other solid structure will involve more ‘building’ type work and may require a tradesperson to assist with certain aspects.

A cardboard template, showing exactly where the holes are needed, is included and simplifies the installation by removing any guesswork about pipe positions.

Solar & Battery recommendations

If you are looking for a solar panel and battery to supply power for the Villa in an ‘off-grid’ setting, we can only make general recommendations as the specifics of your site and other local conditions will affect how much electricity a solar panel is able to generate. Assuming a site in the UK, and that your intended location doesn’t have any significant shading or shadows during the day, and with the solar panel angled due south, we generally suggest a panel of >50 watts, coupled with a >50Ah battery should fine for year-round use. For a more detailed look at calculating your solar requirments, read our blog post.

Included accessories:

Most items are included with the Separett Villa to enable a typical installation where you vent through the wall behind the toilet. In addition to the toilet itself, you will also receive: 40cm length of vent pipe (Ø75mm), external vent grid/cover, indoor flashing for vent pipe, 2m semi-flexible hose for urine waste (Ø32mm), connector pipe 90°, vent cowl, two solid waste containers with one lid, power cable/mains adaptor, mounting screws, and a sample consumables pack (2 biodegradable bags to line the solids container, a Bio Drain block and an Absorb pad).

For details of possible ventilation options, please see our blog post: Separett Villa Ventilation Options.

Please note that the manufacturer may change the specifications, design and supplied accessories as part of continuous product improvement.

Delivery to a non-UK address? No Problem!

Since Brexit, the process of selling to non-UK customers (including those in Ireland!) has changed but we don’t want our customers to pay more so we are offering to refund your customs duties and admin fees.

VAT generally evens itself out:
We reduce our price when selling to non-UK countries. This is because we don’t charge UK VAT (20%) for customers outside the UK.

The VAT rate is typically similar in other countries, around 20%, so the saving made by not paying UK VAT is generally offset by paying local VAT upon import.

Customs duty/admin fees:
Keep your receipt for customs or admin fees and send it to us. We’ll refund these extra fees back to your account.

In short…
Non-UK customers shouldn’t have to pay more for their products than our UK customers.

If you’re unsure about anything, please contact our friendly team.
